A great weekend with Breitling

image
Just wanted to share some pics from this weekend. The Swedish Airforce celebrated its 90th anniversary and Molle and I got invited to celebrate the occasion with Breitling during a celebratory weekend at the Malmen airport in Linköping (Sweden)

image

During the Friday we got to ride the airplanes pictured above sitting on the top wing. Pretty cool.

We also got the opportunity to take a ride in one of the Swedish Black Hawk helicopters, that was seriously awesome, the pilot drove as if he had stolen it.

image
We also got to see some Breitlings of course. This emergency is worn by the civil SAAB JAS39 Gripen Pilots.

New arrival: Sinn 103

image

The Sinn 103 has been around for quite some time and there has been a few small changes over the years. The picture above is from a 1993 Sinn catalogue.

image

Nowadays it’s sold as an automatic (Valjoux 7750) with day+date but the one I just bought has a manual wind Valjoux 7760. I emailed Sinn to ask for the exact year but Sinn oddly didn’t register serial numbers on watches sold until 1998 so all they could tell me is that the watch is older than 1998.

Sinn changed ownership 1994 and before that they probably only sold directly to their customers. A lot has changed since then.

image

The 7760 movement was released 1985 so that makes this watch from 1985-1997. During this period Sinn watches had “SWISS MADE” on the dial. The domed acrylic crystal is wonderful and I really like the patina the hands, dial and case has developed over the years.

image

A great thing about this model is that parts are still available since Sinn hasn’t changed much over the years. You can still buy original crowns, service the movement easily and even buy a new steel bracelet for it.

image

The case has a perfect 41mm size which makes it wear great regardless of strap option. The crown is screw down and the WR is 10ATM (20ATM on current models).

Camille Fournet + JLC

image

Camille Fournet makes the original straps for Jaeger-LeCoultre, Cartier and some other “premium” Swiss brands. They are considered to be one of the best strap manufacturers in the business. Through their website you are able to custom order watch straps and that’s what I did 2 weeks ago.

image

The original strap for the Jaeger-LeCoultre Deep Sea Chronograph is 21/20mm which I think is a little too obstructing, so I ordered a 21/18mm strap in the same style but in a “sailcloth” material (not available online but through their customer service). The strap was ordered in the same vintage shape as the original strap and looks a lot like the strap that comes with the JLC DSC Cermet.

image

Since it tapers to 18mm instead of 20mm I wasn’t able to use the original buckle but I was able to buy a buckle from an original tropicstrap from a fellow collector.

image

A good fit I’d say and I’m guessing the strap is OK to swim with as well.

The Rolex flu

image

Tho years in a row during flu season I’ve gotten ill with the “Rolex flu”, last year I bought a Seadweller 116600 which was a great watch, after 10 days however, I thought it was utterly boring, sold it and bought two Grand SEIKOs instead.

This year I for some strange reason got sick again. The need for a “R” appeared from nowhere and I bought a exp ii (40mm). It’s supposedly a great watch, I bought the Luminova and SEL version with drilled lugs. From all logic this is the best version. Solid, still tool and a better size that’s the current model.

So how long did it take for me to get well this time? 48hrs. I’m hoping I don’t catch the flu next year. 😀
